Crime by juvenile increasing in National capital, Minor raped again in Delhi

New Delhi: A 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and brutalized allegedly by her 16-year-old neighbor in R.K. Puram here on Sunday night. The juvenile has been apprehended but the girl is in a critical condition. The past 48 hours have seen six incidents of rape across the Capital; five of the victims are minors.

According to the police, the incident took place at a slum cluster. They said the accused allegedly inserted an object into her, causing wounds reminiscent of the December 16 gang-rape. “The juvenile entered a nearby toilet where the victim was having a bath and assaulted her by shoving some object into her. After this, he fled the spot but not before threatening the girl of dire consequences in case she shared her ordeal with anyone,” said a senior police officer.

The victim reached home and narrated the incident to her family, who approached the police. She was sent to the nearby Safdarjung Hospital, where medical examination confirmed the rape. Sources said the victim underwent a minor surgery. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The accused was subsequently produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to a juvenile home.

In a similar case reported in West Delhi’s Kirti Nagar on Sunday, a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth living in her locality. The police had initially shared the name of the accused but later requested the media to hold it back as they suspect he could be a juvenile. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) V. Renganathan told that the victim had gone to watch television at a shop near her house around 8 p.m. The accused, who was known to the victim, visited the shop a little later to buy cigarettes.

He took the girl with him to an isolated area and allegedly raped her and then left her near railway tracks in the area. Meanwhile, the girl’s worried family was searching for her and reached the spot. They reported the matter to the police. A case under POCSO and relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the accused was arrested.
