Fast voting in Delhi assembly elections as 34% turn out to vote by 1pm

New Delhi: The entire Gandhi family Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, vice-president Hamid Ansari, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung were among those who cast their ballot as 34% voters turned up to vote by 1pm in the Delhi assembly elections today.
The polls are being seen as a tight triangular contest between traditional rivals Congress and BJP and debutant Aam Admi Party. Sonia was accompanied by Dikshit and stood in the queue for a little while before being escorted inside the poll booth at Nirman Bhavan. When asked about the prospects of Congress, Sonia said with a smile, “We will win”.

Maneka Gandhi too exercised her franchise at the booth a little after Sonia voted. Clad in a while kurta-pyjama and a half-jacket, Rahul queued up for around 32 minutes before his turn came at booth Number 88 at Aurangazeb Lane in New Delhi constituency from where the chief minister is contesting.

Exuding confidence over Congress’ victory, Rahul said Dikshit has “done a lot of good work in Delhi. I think she will do well.” Dikshit struck a cautious note when asked about the possible poll outcome, saying she has kept her “fingers crossed.
