Shoma summons from Goa Police to record her statement in sexual assault case

New Delhi: Former Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury and three others on Wednesday received summons from the Goa Police to record her statement before a magistrate in the Tarun Tejpal sexual assault case. She has been summoned under section 164 of the IPC.

Earlier, a Goa court rejected Tejpal’s ples for a fan in his jail. Tejpal who is accused of sexually molesting a woman journalist is presently under police custody for 6 days. Tejpal was denied bail by the Goa sessions court on Saturday in relation to the alleged sexual assault case against him.

Chaudhury resigned on November 28 from her post following the sexual assault allegations against Tehelka Founder-Editor Tarun Tejpal. In her resignation that she sent in an email at 5 am, Chaudhury said that it has been a damaging time for all associates in Tehelka.

She rejected the cover-up allegations against her saying, while I accept that I could have done many things differently and in a more measured way, I reject the allegations of a cover-up because in no way could the first actions that were taken be deemed suppression of any kind. As for my feminist positions, I believe I acted in consonance with them by giving my colleague’s account precedence over everything else.
