NEW DELHI: ITO, one of Delhi’s busiest office localities, is set to get connected to the Metro network in the next five-six months.
Delhi Metro officials say they are hoping to get the ITO station functional from June-July, some five months ahead of schedule, with trains connecting it to Mandi House and Central Secretariat.
The station will be complete by May-June. We are hoping to have trains; perhaps running on a single track, by June or July, said D P Saini, director (projects), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The ITO station is expected to have a ridership of 40,000 and is tipped to be one of the busiest. The station, being built using the cut and cover technology, will be 250m long, and will be underneath Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, at a depth of 16 metres. The subways will be considerably longer than the norm.
Those coming up in front of the PHQInstitute of Engineers and Andhra school-Rouse Avenue will be 110m long. Usually, subways are kept at around 50m, said DMRC officials.
