Lucknow: The volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Kisaan Union and Jan Kalyan Samiti had waved the black flags to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi is Member of Parliament from this area.

Rahul Gandhi said, “We believe in actions and not in words or tall promises. Various projects were executed by us, from women self-help groups to national highways and many others. Our only shortcoming is poor electric supply and bad roads, but both these come under the purview of the state government.”
He alleged on the state government and said that the Centre’s funds are not spent as they should be by the state government. Rahul Gandhi said, “Centre is always willing to extend a helping hand and there is no compromise on any work undertaken.”
Rahul was scheduled to reach Amethi at around 11.00 am but due to inclement weather conditions, he touched down at around 4.30 pm. The arrival was marred by AAP workers in Jais and Bharatiya Kisan Union workers in Gauriganj waving black flags at him, complaining about local problems faced by residents in these areas.
A local leader of Congress said, “The protestors relented and allowed Rahul’s convoy to move after the Congress vice-president assured them their problems would be looked into.”
Rahul met an aged woman Ram Surat Singh and offered her a seat near him on his vehicle after his arrival at Amethi along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra.
According to local Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi visited Jais and Gauriganj areas of his parliamentary constituency. Rahul interacted with some retired soldiers at the Gauriganj Congress office and hailed their contribution to the nation.
He went to the residence of party worker and district vice-president Shobnath Yadav to condole the death of Yadav’s father. In the evening, he also held meetings with a couple of delegations at the Munshiganj guest house.
However, Kumar Vishwas, leader of Aam Aadmi Party had termed the visit of Rahul Gandhi as “political picnic”.
Kumar Vishwas said, “Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are least interested in the progress and development of Amethi. Rahul rarely speaks or raises any issue in the Parliament. As far as this visit is concerned, it is simply a two-day political picnic. But, we want that some serious talks and discussions become a part of the picnic too.”
Vishwas said he had challenged the Congress vice-president to debate on various issues pertaining to Amethi at any given place and date.
