Winter Session of Parliament will resume from 5 February

Winter Session of Parliament will resume from 5 FebruaryNew Delhi: Parliamentary affairs Minister Kamal Nath said that the Winter Session of Parliament will resume from February 5 and will end on February 21.

The session will be a continuation of the Winter Session that was adjourned sine die in December last year, but not prorogued.

The session will be held to pass the Vote on Account.

Meanwhile Kamal Nath told media earlier this month that the session will be for 15 days or ten sittings. He also said that the government is yet to take a decision on the business agenda for the session.

Nath revealed that the government also plans to pass some crucial anti-corruption legislations which are a part of the Congress and the UPA Government’s agenda to address the issue of corruption. He said these bills will come up for discussion and possible passage in the session.

However Kamal nath had declined the view that the UPA-II Government wants to pass these bills in a bid to acquire some political mileage before and during the 2014 general elections.

The main pending bills in Parliament are The Whistleblowers Protection Bill, Judicial Accountability Bill, Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, Citizens Charter Bill, Timely Delivery of Services Bill and Public Procurement Bill.

Notify that the only significant achievement of the Winter Session was the passing of the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill by both Houses.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had stated it a historic step to fight corruption. He also said that Parliament in its wisdom has chosen to enact the landmark legislation.

The passing of the landmark Bill also resulted in social activist Anna Hazare ending his nine-day-long fast at Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra’s Ahmadnagar District.

Political leaders from all political parties had welcomed the development as a historic step, and hoped that the menace of corruption at all levels of government and in public life would be effectively tackled and ended.
