Movie Rahasya not about Aarushi, Censor board says HC

Movie Rahasya not about Aarushi, Censor board says HC Mumbai: Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, parents of murdered teenager Aarushi, may soon withdraw their petition against the release of the movie ‘Rahasya’.

The Central Board of Film Certification on Tuesday filed an affidavit before the Bombay High Court stating that the movie isn’t related to Aarushi murder case.

The Talwars then sought a private screening from the producers, and said they have no objection if the movie doesn’t portray them in bad light.

We won’t make a case if the Talwars are not being shown guilty. This fact from the movie is very relevant to us. We have been said that the father is not the murderer, but is him murdered in movie; advocates Birendra Saraf, appearing for the Talwars, said the court.

The producer and director of the movie too seemed amenable to the request of holding a screening for the family. The court will hear the matter next on March 10.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Tuesday stated in its affidavit that it is incorrect to assume that Rahasya is connected to Aarushi murder case or to Dr Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar’s life.

It said the movie is based in a Mumbai, and is about an 18 year old college girl. The boyfriend of the girl is shown as a prime suspect, and the father is proven innocent in the film.

It said the family’s contention is misconceived and devoid of any merit, and that Rahasya is in fact a fictitious suspense thriller. In the movie, the father of the girl is murdered.

She is shown to be the daughter of a house maid. “She is not the biological daughter of the doctor couple. There is no resemblance in appearance or even otherwise to anyone in the Aarushi case,” it said.

Tanmayi Gadre, Birendra Saraf and Neha Mehta appeared for the Talwars. Atul Damle represented the director and producer of the movie. Additional Solicitor General Kevic Setalvad submitted the affidavit on behalf of CBFC.
