Over 67 pc polling in WB, 44.51 pc voting recorded in UP till 3pmNew Delhi: As voters, election officials and security forces occupied a 117-year-old Buddhist monastery here which was turned into a polling booth, monks there were forced to cancel their daily prayers and other religious activities.

Over 67 per cent polling in West Bengal till 3:00 PM and 44.51 per cent voting was recorded in 18 seats of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. In remarks that might land him in fresh trouble, BJP leader Giriraj Singh questioned the impartiality of the Election Commission saying that different yardsticks were being adopted for model code violations.

A JD(U) MLA was booked along with nine others for allegedly attacking a voter outside a booth during voting in Bihar’s Gopalganj district. Varanasi Police says an FIR has been lodged against Congress candidate Ajay Rai on EC directive.
