SC suggest Kerala to follow Gujarat Model if state want to ban alcoholThiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court had said to Kerala government on Thursday to follow the Gujarat Model if state wants to ban the alcohol in state. The apex court also said that if state government want to ban the alcohol then ban it totally.

The court said that more than 700 bars in Kerala cannot be shut down. It had questioned over the decision of state government to allow bars in five-star hotels only.

The judges said, “If you want to ban alcohol, stop it totally, like Gujarat.”

Notify that bars had took state government to the court over its decision as bars will lose their licenses starting tomorrow as part of the government’s plan to turn the state dry within 10 years.

The Supreme Court has said a final call must be taken by the Kerala High Court which has been asked to deliver its verdict by the end of the month.

Notify that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said last month that only five-star hotels will be allowed to keep serving booze and even they will have go dry on Sundays. The Supreme Court said the exemption to five-stars appears illogical.
