Man assaulted three schoolgirls aged 9 and 10, arrested in DelhiNew Delhi: A 30-year-old man in Delhi had assaulted three minor students in school premises in Dwarka, Southwest Delhi, arrested on Thursday. Police said the incident took place on Monday.

Notify that incident had not been reported till parents of several students staged a protest outside the school on Thursday morning.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Tajender Singh Luthra said, “The man has been identified as Sachin Kumar, a book-binder. He had come to the school to deliver books to the library. On his way out, he caught hold of three Class III students who were passing by. The girls told us that he touched them inappropriately. We are also verifying the statement of one of the girls who said she had reported the incident to a teacher, but the school failed to inform police on Monday itself.”

Police said parents had come to the school on Thursday morning for a parent-teacher meeting. When word spread that three girls — aged between 9 and 10 years — had been sexually assaulted by a man near the library on the second floor of the school, a group of parents staged a protest outside the school till it closed for the day at 2 pm.

A case of sexual assault and delay in reporting the incident by an institution — under Sections 10 and 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) 2012 — was registered in Chhawla police station.

Police had traced Sachin and arrested him on Thursday evening from his house in Rajouri Gardens on behalf of statement of girls.
