Meerut woman confesses of eloping, denied ‘love jihad’Meerut: The Meerut gang-rape and forced conversion victim had denied the charges of ‘love jihad’. She said she had eloped with her Muslim boyfriend on her own.

Reports claimed that woman said that she had been threatened and forced by her family after which she made the charges.

The young woman from Meerut, who in August claimed she was abducted, gang-raped and forcefully converted to Islam, has made a U-turn, telling police that she had in fact eloped with the accused. She left her home on Sunday citing threats and contacted the police.

She wrote in the statement, “I was staying with my parents, but I ran away from home because I feel a threat to my life from my parents and relatives…I went with the boy belonging to a different community out of my own will.”

The woman had complaint in August over which the accused Kaleem along with seven others were arrested. The BJP workers in the state had branded the incident as “love jihad”.

The woman said that she ran away with the accused on her own free will as she was feeling threatened by her family, the report said.

Superintendent of Police (Meerut Rural) MM Beg said that the after running away from her house, the girl “approached a women’s police station on Sunday morning” and had been present before a Magistrate. She has been to the Meerut Nari Niketan as she had requested.
