New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday claimed that Central government believes itself to be efficient and hardworking. The apex court said that Central government behaved like mythological character ‘Kumbhakarna’ and ‘Rip Van Winkle’.
A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and R F Nariman was frowned over the delay in submitting a report despite grant of two months time on the environment and ecological impact of 24 hydro-electric projects on Alaknanda and Bhagirathi river basins in Uttarakhand.
The bench said, “The report should have been here. It is the fault of the Union government. You are behaving like Kumbhakarna.”
Bench also said that the court will not lift the stay unless its orders were complied with.
