Mumbai: Yesteryear’s diva Rekha is one of the most stunning actresses to ever hit the silver screen in Bollywood and she celebrates her 60th birthday today.
She was born on October 10, 1954. Rekha is the daughter of veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli. Rekha started her career in 1966 as a child actress.
Her first film in Hindi is Anjana Safar (1969). She has acted in over 180 films and she has often played strong female characters.
She has won three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress. She also won National Film Award for Best actress for the film Umrao Jaan (1981).
Rekha was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contribution in the cinemas. Her films include Gora Aur Kala, Ek Bechara, Do Anjaane, Kabeela, Aalaap, Khoon Pasina, Aap ki Khatir, Koi Mill Gaya, Krrish, Lajja and Sadiyaan.
