BJP moves Kolkata HC after KMC refuses permission to Amit Shah meetingKolkata: The BJP has approach the Calcutta High Court after Kolkata Municipal Corporation and West Bengal fire service department denied permission to party chief Amit Shah to hold a rally on Sunday near Victoria House citing “deficiency” in the party’s application in this regard. The High Court is set to hear in the matter at 2 pm today.

The civic body said that there were several technical in the plan submitted by the party while denying permission for the rally. Also the Kolkata police had objected to the rally saying that Shah’s rally would inconvenience the commuters as a major traffic intersection is located at the Victoria memorial, where the BJP plans to hold its Sunday rally.

However, Trinamool Congress head and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee holds an annual rally at the same venue on July 21 when the party organises its martyr’s day rally. BJP state president Rahul Sinha informed Shah about development in the matter and told media persons that the BJP chief assured him that he will come to Kolkata on Sunday and address the rally.

Criticising the KMC’s stand, state BJP president Rahul Sinha said that the TMC was afraid of the BJP and by “declaring undeclared emergency, it was trying to gag the voice of the Opposition”. “On the instruction of the chief minister, the authorities are refusing permission to hold the meeting,” he alleged. We shall move the Calcutta High Court again tomorrow as we have full faith on the Judiciary. We hope to get justice allowing us to hold the rally beside Victoria House,” Sinha said.
