New Delhi: 21-year-old girl had been killed by her family and cremated in National capital for honour killing as she married with her boyfriend in a temple.
Girl named Bhawna had married with her inter-caste boyfriend in a temple. Her parent Jagmohan and Savitri Yadav, resident of Dwarka area of southwest Delhi had strangled Bhawna on November 15.
DCP (southwest) Suman Goyal said that they have confessed to the murder and were arrested on Tuesday.
Bhawna was a third-year student of Sri Venkateswara College and married 24 year old Abhishek Seth who is a contractual assistant programmer at Rashtrapati Bhawan. They had married at Arya Samaj Mandir in Connaught Place on November 12. They had met at a party two years ago.
Parents of Bhawna had disapproved of the relationship and fixed her engagement to a man from their caste on November 22.
A mutual friend of the couple said, “They decided to marry, hoping her parents would come around.”
Another friend said, “We went to Abhishek’s house after the wedding and his father told us Bhawna’s parents must be informed. They came and promised to honour the marriage. They took Bhawna away, saying they’d keep her home for a few days and promising to host a grand wedding.”
Police said that when she reached her house in Bharat Vihar, Bhawna was allegedly beaten for dishonouring her family and ordered to divorce Abhishek. Unable to change Bhawna’s mind, her parents strangled her.
After killing her, the family of victim had left to Alwar of Rajasthan with her dead body.
They told neighbours that Bhawna had been bitten by a snake and they were taking her to an ayurvedic practioner in their native village.
Police official said, “When they reached the village, they told their relatives she’d died on the way. They cremated her and returned to the city.”
Meanwhile a police complaint had been filed by Bhawna’s husband Abhishek on November 16 when he had failed to through to her.
He said, “Finally, one of her cousins told me she had been cremated.”
Parent of Bhawna had too claimed to police that she had been died after a snake bite. But after finding contradictory versions in separate interrogation, they confessed the crime.
