New Delhi: India had been set to become the second-largest internet market by the end of December 2014 in the world as India is forecast to touch 302 million or 30.2 crore users and will overtake United States of America.
A report of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International, the number of Internet users in India is expected to grow 32 per cent to 30.2 crore this year from 21.3 crore at the end of December last year.
The Internet user base in the country is further estimated to grow to 35.4 crore by June 2015.
Notify that neighbor country China is on number one as it has the largest user base with more than 60 crore Internet users, while the U.S. has an estimated 27.9 crore users.
In a statement, IAMAI-IMRB said, “The Internet in India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million and 3 years from 100 million to 200 million. However, it took only a year to move from 200 to 300 million users. Clearly, Internet is main stream in India today.”
Of the 27.8 crore users, 17.7 crore are in urban India, higher by 29 per cent from last year. This is expected to reach 19.0 crore by December 2014 and 21.6 crore by June 2015.
The number of Internet users increased by 39 per cent to reach 10.1 crore in October 2014 in rural area. It had been expected to reach 11.2 crore by December 2014 and 13.8 crore by June 2015.
