Jammu: PM Narendra Modi will arrive here today to address election rallies ahead of the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir polls. According to the Bharatiya Janata Party sources, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address poll rallies in Udhampur and Poonch districts of Jammu region.
A record number of BJP supporters had attended the Kishtwar election rally and the party is expecting a heavy presence of people in today’s rallies. More than 40,000 people came to hear Modi in the mountainous Kishtwar town on November 22 before the first phase of Assembly elections on November 25, party said.
Surankote, Mendhar and Poonch Haveli constituencies in Poonch district, Ramnagar, Chenani and Udhampur in Udhampur district and Gulabgarh, Reasi, and Gool Arnas in Reasi district are going to poll.
In the Kashmir Valley, the constituencies going to poll include Devsar, Noorabad, Homeshalibugh and Kulgam in Kulgam district and Handwara, Kupwara, Karnah, Lolab and Langate in Kupwara district.
An unprecedented 70 percent voter turnout was witnessed in the first phase of elections. Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made and an alert has been sounded in the region ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in the wake of an encounter in which three Army personnel and as many militants were killed on Thursday. The second phase of polling will take place on December 2.
