Bengaluru: A woman was killed and five men were injured when an unidentified device exploded on Church Street, off Bengaluru’s showcase MG Road, on Sunday night.
Bhavani Bala, the woman who died in the blast in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, had come from Chennai for Christmas vacation. The 38-year-old mother of two was out with relatives, enjoying an evening stroll, when she was fatally wounded.
Bhavani’s 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter are reportedly in Chennai. On her last night in Bengaluru, she wanted to see Church Street, MG Road and Brigade Road.
Home minister Rajnath Singh is holding a high level meet with the NSA, IB chief and home secretary to discuss Bengaluru blast. Union home minister Rajnath Singh has already spoken to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and assured him that all help will be given by the Centre.
Minister of state for Home Kiran Rijiju said that Bengaluru blast is ‘definitely a terror attack’, NIA likely to probe it.
Karnataka Home Minister KJ George said, we will wait for investigation. We are taking all precautionary measures.
Notify that low intensity explosive had reportedly been placed on the pavement outside the restaurant.
Bhavani was hit in the head and neck by shrapnel, which caused severe blood loss. She was taken to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw. She died soon after. Her husband, a businessman arrived in the city last evening.
The Karnataka government has announced five lakh rupee compensation for the family of Bhavani.
