Peshawar: More than 100 have been killed including students and over 100 others were injured out of which 40 are said to be in critical condition in a terror attack in army-run school in Peshawar of Pakistan, claimed sources. The injured are being treated at the Lady Reading Hospital where emergency has been declared. Six terrorist had entered in the school in north-west Pakistan’s Peshawar on Tuesday morning and started firing.
Reports claimed that terrorists were dressed in army uniforms and entered the school through a graveyard near the back entrance. They torched a vehicle, entered the school premises and started firing.
The #Tehreek-e-#Taliban called up media houses and claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban spokesperson #Muhammad #Umar #Khorasani told Reuters, “Our suicide bombers have entered the school. They have instructions not to harm the children, but to target the army personnel.”
At least 500 children and teachers could still be in the school, reports say. The gunmen allegedly went from room to room.
Security personnel had covered the school to counter the terrorists.
A child who comes out of school said, “We were asked to sit in the auditorium until the firing is over.”
Worried parents and security forces have gathered at the spot.
A senior military official said, “There has been an incident of firing at Army Public School in Peshawar. Troops have cordoned off the area and (are) searching for the militants.”
Heavy gunfire could be heard from inside the school as soldiers surrounded it. According to an official tweet, artillery, helicopters, military, police, intelligence and ground forces are in the area to stop the terrorists.
Security sources had said that three militants have been killed during the rescue operation.
The attack comes as the military wages a major offensive against Taliban and other militants in the tribal area of North Waziristan.
