New Delhi: The National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal took oath as Chief Minister of Delhi and become seventh person to be sworn in as the Delhi chief minister on Saturday at Ramlila Maidan.
He took oath as chief minister along with six other party leaders appointed as Cabinet ministers.
Lakhs of people and party supporters from the neighbouring states attended the ceremony.
Delhi CM Kejriwal said, “I thank each and everyone for coming here. Exactly one year ago on this day I had resigned. Now once again AAP is making a government. I did not know Delhi public loved me so much and gave me 67 seats.”
Lieutenant Governor Dr. Najeeb Jung administered the oath of office to AAP Cabinet.
Manish Sisodia, Asim Ahmed Khan, Sandeep Kumar, Satyendra Jain, Gopal Rai, Jitender Singh Tomar also sworn in as Delhi ministers.
Satyendra Jain, who had handled the Health and Industry in the earlier AAP rule, is expected to retain the same portfolios, sources said. Gopal Rai, a senior party leader and Political Affairs Committee (PAC) member, is tipped be to the next Transport and Labour Minister.
Sandeep Kumar, a lawyer by profession, is likely to handle Women and Child Welfare department and SC and ST Welfare while Jitendra Singh Tomar, also a lawyer, is expected to handle the Law department. Khan is likely to be given the charge of Food and Civil Supplies and Minority Affairs ministries. Rai, Kumar, Tomar and Khan are first-time legislators.
Former ministers Rakhi Bidlan, Somnath Bharti, Girish Soni and Saurabh Bhardwaj did not find place in the new Cabinet.
Notify that Arvind Kejriwal took oath exactly a year after he resigned as chief minister and President Mukherjee accepted his resignation.
In the recent Assembly election of Delhi, AAP had made a historic victory sweeping 67 seats out of 70 with BJP leaving only 3 seats.
