New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold his first janta darbar (public meeting) today, but don’t rush to his office in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party leader will be meeting people at a party office in Kaushambi, where he lives and is a part of Ghaziabad city near the national capital.
Sources said till a government accommodation is allotted to the chief minister, he will hold his janta darbars in Kaushambi. Kejriwal, when he was the chief minister last year, had to leave a janta darbar outside the Delhi Secretariat because a stampede had broken out. Delhi government officials are working on a plan to ensure a better arrangement this time round.
Last time, when the janta darbar was held outside the Delhi secretariat, the huge turnout led to chaos. This time he will meet the public and no other minister will be present there,” said a senior Delhi government official.
We don’t want people with all sorts of grievances to come on one particular day as that will surely lead to chaos. The government may also take complaints in advance and intimate the complainants through SMSes,” the official added.
According to the district administration of Ghaziabad, AAP has been granted permission to hold public meetings thrice a week for an hour at Kejriwal’s residence. To handle crowd and provide security during the meeting, a team of police personnel under the supervision of a police inspector will be present. Women police constables will also be deployed during the meeting.
Kapil Singh, city magistrate, Ghaziabad said, “Arvind Kejriwal can hold his janta darbar every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 11am at his residence. All necessary arrangements have been made to manage traffic and other issues. The traffic police plans to barricade the road outside his residence in Kaushambi to restrict entry of vehicles. Also, to avoid mismanagement, a group of AAP volunteers will assist Kejriwal to address public grievances.
