#DTAT: #India and #Mauritius agrees to push forward negotiationsPort Louis: Both nations India and Mauritius have been agreed to push forward their negotiations for a long pending revision of Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty (DTAT).

They asserted that their main objective is to prevent the “abuse” of the convention.

Notify that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on the visit of three nations. PM Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Sir Anerood Jugnauth expressed this resolve during their talks on Wednesday night even as India offered US dollar 500 million concessional line of credit to this key island nation for key infrastructure projects.

Notify that the negotiations to amend the bilateral tax treaty have been hanging fire for a long time amid apprehensions of India that it is being misused to route unaccounted money and evade taxes.

Five agreements too had been signed by these two countries which includes one on developing ocean economy, after talks between Modi and Sir Anerood on the first day of his two-day visit to Mauritius on the second leg of this three-nation tour that will also take him to Sri Lanka on Friday.

On other key bilateral economic issues, Modi said the two countries should resume their discussions on Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

Addressing a joint news conference with Modi, Jugnauth said he had risen with the Indian Prime Minister issues related to the Mauritius-India Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).

He said, “We appreciate that already India postponed the consideration of the GAAR until 2017. However, we have stressed on the initiatives taken by Mauritius to build substance within our offshore jurisdiction. I have requested PM Modi to give his full support on the DTAA as it is of prime importance for our global business sector.”

The list of agreements between two nations is as follows:

  1. Memorandum of Understanding between India and Republic of Mauritius in the field of Ocean Economy.
  2. Programme for Cultural Cooperation between the Republic of India and the Republic of Mauritius for the year 2015-18.
  3. Protocol between the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture of Republic of India and the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security of Republic of Mauritius for the importation of fresh mango from India.
  4. Memorandum of Understanding for the Improvement in Sea and Air Transportation Facilities at Agalega Island of Mauritius.
  5. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Traditional System of Medicine and Homeopathy.
