Ex-PM #ManmohanSingh moves #SC against #CBI court summons in #CoalscamNew Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court against CBI court summon in Coal scam case. A special CBI Court had on March 11 summoned former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and five others to appear before it as accused, in a case relating to the allocation of the Talabira II/III coal blocks in Odisha, in 2005.

Besides Singh, former Coal Secretary PC Parakh, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and two others had been summoned on April 8. The agency had earlier questioned Singh about the developments which took place in the Ministry of Coal as well as the PMO after Birla had written two letters dated May 7, 2005 and June 17, 2005 to him requesting for allocation of Talabira-II coal block to Hindalco.

Importantly, the CBI had filed the statement of one of the witnesses, S Jayaraman, former Chairman and Managing Director of Neyveli Lignite Corporation, in a sealed cover. The court summon came as a huge embarrassment for Manmohan Singh and poses serious questions on the other decisions taken during his tenure as PM.
