Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders, who held an overnight dharna inside the state Assembly, continued their protest on Wednesday to protest against the new Land Acquisition Bill. The dharna was led by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.
The party has accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of ignoring the welfare of local farmers. Digvijaya Singh said, “MP CM has not fulfilled his duty as a farmer’s son. He does not care about the welfare of farmers. He is busy protecting himself.”
Congress has always fought for the farmers, the MP Govt should give a just compensation to the farmers, Singh said. Congress MLAs sat in the well all night in protest against atrocities against farmers, we are here to relieve them, said PC Sharma of Congress.
On March 17, high drama was witnessed in the national capital when united opposition marched against the Land Bill from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan. The march led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi was attended by leaders of 14 parties and appealed to the President to not clear the Bill. The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 was passed in Lok Sabha on March 9.
