New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s senior leader Kumar Vishwas, accused by a party volunteer of not rebutting “rumours” about an illicit liaison with her and ruining her reputation, is not likely to appear before the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) today.
The DCW had issued summons to Vishwas, considered close to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and his wife, after the volunteer approached it seeking its intervention in forcing the AAP leader to dispel the allegations.
Kumar’s alleged refusal to appear before the DCW came even as its chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party’s charisma is gradually diminishing in the eyes of the general public. The AAP’s charisma is gradually diminishing in the eyes of the public. All such parties that start with a revolution end like this and so will AAP,” Singh said.
“So much of arrogance is not good. He (Vishwas) has got the summons. We sent it six days back. He should come and clear the issue. The lady first went to these people, but got no justice and then she came to us. So, it is our duty to help her and we will extend all support to her,” she added.
Vishwas has been accused of having a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Vishwas had unsuccessfully contested against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the general elections.
The victim has alleged that Vishwas’s wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in a compromising position with the poet-turned politician. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on social media.
Vishwas had, however, yesterday termed the woman’s allegations as baseless and put the onus on the Delhi Police which he said did not take any action on her complaint. He also accused the media of twisting the entire story to malign the party’s image.
