Patna: A parcel bomb had been blast at the house of Janata Dal-United Gaya District President Abhay Kushwaha on Tuesday morning by which one person died and other seriously injured.
The JD-U leader was not at the residence when the bomb went off.
The parcel bomb was delivered at the ancestral house of the JD-U leader at Kujati village under Chandauti police station in Gaya district.
Notify that Gaya is a naxal affected district in south-central Bihar. Enforcing their two-day bandh call, the Maoists had on Sunday torched 32 vehicles in the district.
Gaya police superintendent Manu Maharaj said, “The parcel bomb had wires attached to it and the two persons were putting it aside when it exploded.”
He also added that it was too early to say whether it was a naxal incident or someone has done it due to personal enmity. He said, “The investigation is still going on.”
The person who fell victim to the bomb explosion has been identified as Santosh Kumar, and the injured as Jai Hind Kumar. Both are relatives of the JD-U leader. Jai Hind Kumar has been admitted to the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya.
It is also said that the parcel was hand-delivered to the JD-U leader’s residence last evening and was placed near a window.
Police official said, “On Tuesday morning when Santosh Kumar spotted the packet he tried to open it when it exploded, killing him on the spot.”
Gaya district police chief said, “Anything more on this can be said only after a thorough probe.”
