Shahjahanpur: In a shocking incident in a village of Uttar Pradesh, five Dalit women had been paraded naked and cande by 15 OBC villagers after a girl from their community eloped with Dalit boy.
A victim said, “They abused us, beat us with slippers, dragged us through the streets and insulted us in the middle of the street. They stripped us naked and took our clothes off and threw them. The police did nothing. They came at 8 in the morning.”
The incident occurred in Havera area of Shahjahanpur district. The women were paraded naked on a highway for about four hours before other villagers intervened.
Police had arrested four people including the father of the girl. Fifteen people have been booked in the incident. The state DGP has ordered an inquiry into the case.
Jitin Prasad said, “The police was very careless in this case. It’s their fault that they didn’t come on time to manage the situation. The victims who were shamed should get justice. Investigation should take place in the case.”
The police had assured action against the culprits.
A senior police official said, “A strict investigation will happen. PAC units have been stationed in the village. The ADM and I have camped in the village since last night. There are more people involved in the case. We will investigate and catch them.”
