Mumbai: The city crime branch, probing Malwanihooch tragedy case, arrested two more persons – both women – on Sunday, even as toll in the disaster rose to 97. Fourty six persons are still in the hospitals. One more accused has been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch in connection with the Malwani hooch tragedy, taking the total number of arrests in the case to nine.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Kishore Patel, is a Gujarat-based supplier of Methanol.The National Human Rights Commission had earlier taken suo motu cognizance of the tragedy and issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Excise Department, Government of Maharashtra and Mumbai Police Commissioner calling for factual reports into the incident within two week.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had earlier order an enquiry into the matter, had announced an ex- gratia of Rs. one lakh to the families of the victims.
At least 103 people had died in the hooch tragedy.
