New Delhi: Two undertrials dug a tunnel in Tihar Jail and manage escape. One escaped convict Faizan had been caught while other convict Javed is still at large.
After the inmates escape, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a report from the Tihar jail authorities.
Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has ordered a probe into the incident.
The two convicts were housed in Jail no 7. They scaled the wall and then dug a tunnel linking to the boundary of the prison complex on Saturday night.
Their absence could be detected only on Sunday night after they failed to respond to their roll call.
An alert was immediately sounded and a search led the jail officials to the tunnel.
Delhi Police has been alerted, and its officials are now searching for the missing undertrial.
Former Inspector General Prisons of Tihar Jail Kiran Bedi had took to Twitter and called the reported escape as an indication of “weakening of certain administrative & oversight practices, when followed, can’t occur.”
Notify that Tihar Central Jail has a three-layer security and houses several high-profile inmates including politicians like former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar and accused Naxalite Kobad Ghandy.
