Kolkata: The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that she is monitoring situation of Darjeeling hills which had been hit by landslides caused by heavy rain. She also said to visit the landslide hit Darjeeling.
WB CM Banerjee is now in Murshidabad. She tweted, “I am monitoring the situation closely and will rush there after the meeting in Murshidabad”.
Banerjee also expressed anguish over the loss of lives in the landslides.
Development minister of North Bengal Gautam Deb said that army help was sought for the rescue operations in the hills.
At least 38 people were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rains in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong sub-divisions of Darjeeling district since last night.
