CM Kejriwal brake his silence, tweets, Somnath Bharti an embarrassment to AAP, should surrenderNew Delhi: Breaking his silence on the domestic violence charge against party colleage Somnath Bharti. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said former law minister Somnath Bharti should surrender to police, a day after the Delhi High Court dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party MLA’s anticipatory bail plea in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra.

On microblogging website Twitter, the Delhi CM said: Somnath shud surrender. Why is he running away? Why is he so scared of gng to jail? Now he is becoming embarasment for party n his family. He shud cooperate wid police, (sic)” Kejriwal tweeted this morning. On Tuesday night, as many as 50 officers and eight police teams launched a manhunt in search of the AAP MLA and former Delhi law minister.

Bharti faces charges of domestic violence and attempt to murder, made by his wife Lipika Mitra. Somanth’s wife Liptika Mitra thanked Kejriwal for raising the issue. “CM has taken notice, I am grateful to him for this,” said Lipika. The former law minister’s lawyer, however, claims Bharti will file an anticipatory bail plea in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Soon after the bail plea was dismissed, the Delhi Police raided the legislator’s residence and office in Malviya Nagar, but he was missing. two special teams of south-west district police carried out raids at both his office and residence in Malviya Nagar, but the lawmaker remained elusive. Bharti’s assistant and another person were detained by police for questioning but released late on Tuesday, said sources.
