Abdul Kalam's 84th birth anniversary, Kalam was a rashtraratna before he became a rashtrapati: PM ModiNew Delhi: The Missile Man of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who gave India its first Satellite Launch Vehicle, SLV-III, which was used to deploy the Rohini satellite, was born on October 15, 1931. He died on July 27 and had he been alive, he would have celebrated his 84th birthday today. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has been called ‘The People’s President’ many times in the media and by the masses. He has given several speeches that have inspired everyone, especially students.

Marking the 84th birth anniversary of former president A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the achievements of India’s ‘rocket man’ on Twitter.  PM Modi attended the birth anniversary celebrations of Kalam at the DRDO headquarters where he unveiled his bust as well.

PM Modi said Dr Kalam was a ‘rashtraratna’ before he became a ‘rashtrapati.’ “Just after leaving the Presidency, after such a big position, he went to teach. This can’t happen without an inherent commitment,” he said. “Our young scientists should get inspired by the way shown by Dr Kalam.”

Modi tweeted, “Today, we salute Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and celebrate his monumental achievements, as a scientist, scholar & the President of India. We fondly remember his passion for teaching & education. Dr. Kalam truly ignited young minds with the power to think and innovate. Dr. Kalam is not with us today but his thoughts, ideals and vision for India live on forever.”
