Celebrating the Navaratri Festival in across IndiaNew Delhi: Navratri 2015 starts on the 13th of October. Navratri is a nine-day festival celebrated by Hindus with all the nine days representing the nine manifestations of the powerful and benevolent Goddess Durga. Navratri is derived from the Sanskrit words “nava” which means nine and “ratri” which means night.

Maa Durga (also known as Navdurga) is worshipped in Her different incarnations for ten days and nine nights during the festival which is celebrated all over India. Worshipping the nine forms of Durga is the main ritual during the Navratri Puja. It is the most auspicious period to perform devotional sadhanas, pray to Goddess Durga and perform the Navratri puja. On the tenth day of this festival, known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra (Dasara) the idols of Goddess Durga is immersed in a water body.

Although Navratri is celebrated all across India, the festivities are at fever pitch in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and southern parts of Karnataka. In West Bengal Navratri is celebrated as Durga Puja.

Ghatasthapana or Kalashsthapana Puja is one of the important rituals during Navratri festival. It is said that Ghatasthapana marks the beginning of the nine days of Navratri. Kalashsthapana Puja is nothing but invocation of Goddess Shakti  in a pot or kalash and sowing some seeds in them. The puja is performed on the first day of Navaratri after Amavasya. Navratri is one of the major festivals celebrated in the country, which includes amazing events like Garba Raas, Dandiya and many more.

Devotees place picture of Goddess along with the pot filled with water in the house. The pot must be covered with cow dung and seeds must be sown in the dung. Further the seeds sprout and are then distributed as Prasad on the Vijayadashami day. On the first day, people conduct special puja’s. Ghatsthapana will be performed on October 13, 2015.

According to Hindu calendar, the auspicious time to perform the Ghatasthapana and Durga Puja will begin on 13th October 2015 from 06:35 to 10:28 am. Here we have the auspicious timing of Durga Puja and Ghatasthapana Muhurat. Happy Navratri to everyone out there!

Muhurat for Kalash Sthapana will begin from 12:01 to 12:48 pm. Ghatasthapana Muhurta falls on Pratipada Tithi and it will start from:

  • Pratipada Tithi begin=  05:35 on October 13th, 2015
  • Pratipada Tithi ends = 08:01 on October 14th, 2015
