NDA Government mulling to offer equity to farmers for their land acquired for road projects : Nitin Gadkari NEW DELHI: The government is planning to offer equity to farmers for their land acquired for road projects in a bid to reduce opposition to land acquisition for industrial and infrastructure development.
Farmers in rural areas will also get four times the compensation of their actual land cost.

“We’re working on a plan to offer minimum equity to farmers. They will also get enhanced compensation which will be four times the actual land cost,” Roads Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told ET.

However, Gadkari did not divulge details on how much equity would be offered but he said it could be calculated on the cost of land acquired.

Speaking at CII PPP summit, #NitinGadkari also asked Industry to be generous with farmers and involve them in project as partners since India was a welfare state.

“When cement lobby increases prices, no developer complaints but when they have to pay enhanced compensation to rural farmers, private sector is always up in arms,” he said.

#NitinGadkari also had a warning for his officials.

He said if they didn’t buckle up he’ll give the work of preparing DPR of road projects to state governments. “I have already asked states to prepare #DPR worth Rs 20,000 crore, he said.

Speaking on the #Volkswagen emission cheating scandal  #NitinGadkari said an IIT panel would be formed to probe the matter.
