The step of crackdown on illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses taken by the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh governmentBengaluru: It seems some other states too are welcoming the step of crackdown on illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses taken by the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government.

Now, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBM), the city corporation of Bengaluru, has announced to form squads to conduct raids to shut illegal meat shops in the city.

BBMP has formed a list of 250 illegal meat shops in the city and issued notices to them, according to a report in TOI.

Noteworthy, Bengaluru houses more than 3,600 meat shops in the city’s eight 

“We will soon form two squads to conduct surprise inspections and shut illegal meat shops,” said Dr Sriram, in-charge and deputy director, animal husbandry, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the report added.

According to the rules, for areas within Outer Ring Road, meat shops are allowed only if the road width is over 40 feet and for areas beyond ORR, the road width has to be at least 60 feet.

Also, there are two categories of licences:-

#For shops where fresh cut meat is sold

#Another for shops with cold storage facility 

For these, the applicant has to get the consent of the owner of the building and neighbours.
