4 Upper House slots, but Yogi team has 5 non-members

4 Upper House slots, but Yogi team has 5 non-membersLUCKNOW: The Election Commission announced September 15 as date of election to four UP Vidhan Parishad seats that got vacant following resignation by SP legislators. It will pave the way for four out of five ministers in Yogi Aditya Nath government who are not legislators to become members of the upper house.

The fifth will have to either contest assembly election or resign as the six month period for getting elected to any of the Houses will get over on September 19. Technically, one assembly seat is vacant after death of Sikandra’s BJP MLA Mathura Pal. The CM, his two deputies Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya, Swatantra Dev Singh and Mohsin Raza are not members of either assembly or the council.

Election for seat vacated by BSP’s Jaiveer Singh would not take place since his tenure was to expire in less than a year, additional CEO Amrita Soni said.
