Bengaluru: Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani has once again landed himself in a political row. This time for his statement addressed to the youth of Karnataka, which is headed for polls on May 12.
“Biggest role of Karnataka’s youth should be to enter PM’s campaign program in Bengaluru on 15th, hurl chairs in the air and disrupt it. Then ask him what happened to 2 crore jobs,” Mevani said while addressing a gathering at Chitradurga’s Vartha Bhavan on Wednesday.
He went on to say, that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi can’t answer the questions, then he should go to the Himalayas.
On Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) over Mevani’s speech for allegedly inciting violence.
In January this year, Mevani has announced that he will campaign along with the ‘like-minded’ parties against the BJP in April.
“I will urge 20% of Dalits in the state that not even their 20 votes should go to them (BJP),” Mevani had said, adding, “An alliance of all mainstream political parties and concrete people’s alliance should come together to defeat ‘chaddidharis’ in the state.”
He had claimed the BJP and PM Modi had not kept their promises of providing two crore jobs every year, made ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“The government hasn’t paid much attention to jobs or farmer suicides but only focused on issues like love jihad,” he said.
With just a month to go for Karnataka Assembly Elections, both ruling Congress and opposition BJP have entered a high-pitched battle on the ground and on social media.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi government and the BJP at an election rally, accusing the former of benefitting from the rich people. “It’s a war of ideology between the BJP and the Congress,” said Gandhi.
