England: The Indian batsmen went down England’s probing pace on Day 2 of the second Test match at Lord’s. James Anderson bowled brilliantly as India were all out for 107 in the first innings on Friday.
Here are the highlights from Day 2:
What a remarkable day for England. It is safe to say that this English side has the best bowling attack in Test cricket at the moment. James Anderson was having the time of his life at Lord’s. He got the hosts off to a great start after dismissing both Murali Vijay (0) and KL Rahul (8) early in the innings. Just when India looked like settling in, Cheteshwar Pujara (1) got caught in a mix up with skipper Virat Kohli and the former was run out before heavy rains interrupted the play. The game resumed in the third session and Chirs Woakes bowled a dream of a delivery to send off the in-form Virat Kohli for 23. It was Edgbaston all over again from thereon as India succumbed to pace and were all out for 107. England topped the sessions on Day 2, can India comeback into this Test match? Join us tomorrow for live updates on Day 3.

England have 4 slips and a gully now. What a remarkable sight!
Dinesh Karthik is at number seven.
Wicket!! Woakes strikes again. He forces Pandya (11) to open his shoulder at an outswinger and Jos Buttler takes a comfortable catch at slips. Buttler had just dropped Pandya in the previous delivery but makes it up with an easy catch. India in trouble now.
Hardik Pandya is in at number six.
India 49/4!
Wicket!! Kohli attempts to flick Woakes’ pitched up delivery on the leg side but the ball moves away from the batsman and carries an edge to Jos Buttler at second-slip. What a delivery! Kohli departs for a 57-ball 23.
An attacking change by England skipper Joe Root. He brings left-arm pacer Sam Curran into the attack. It will be interesting to see how Kohli and Rahane tackle Curran’s angling deliveries.
Ajinkya Rahane is standing out of his crease to cut the swing and has looked in complete control of his shots so far. He is reading the ball well and playing late. On the other end, the James Anderson vs Virat Kohli battle is on fire. The former is consistently bowling outswingers outside the off stump and the latter keeps his head down to leave the deliveries. This is Test cricket at its best.
India 39/3 after 19 overs.
India 34/3 after 15 overs.
The Rain washed out the first two sessions but India would be happy with that breather after losing three crucial wickets early in the innings. However, James Anderson continues to bowl brilliantly on a dangerous off stump and outside off line. He looks in good rythm and will hunt for more wickets before stumps on Day 2. The visitors will look to survive till the end of day’s play.
Ajinkya Rahane is in at number five!
Play resumes! It is sunny at the Lord’s and the players are back.
The covers are off as rain stops!
Tea break!!
Pujara’s unfortunate run-out could prove to be costly for India. The visitors are reeling at 15/3 and the rain will only make the conditions worse. England, on the other hand, will be fired up when play resumes. Ajinkya Rahane is likely to come in at number five. Should India send a nightwatchman next and start fresh tomorrow?
Rain stops play!! It is raining heavily at the Lord’s and the players run off the field.
Wicket!! Pujara attempts to sneak a single but Kohli sends him back. Ollie Pope collects the ball and runs him out comfortably. India 15/3!
The players are back on the field. Play resumes.
Good news!! The covers are off. It is a little dark and the lights are on.
Play will resume at 12.45 local time. The lunch break has been shifted to 13.45 pm and Tea will be taken at 16.40 pm local time.
Anderson scalped Murali Vijay and KL Rahul with nearly similar deliveries. A late out-swinger! To Vijay, he bowled it around the middle and off stump and bowled outside the off stump for Rahul. Vijay opened his shoulder and wanted to play it over the leg but the ball swung away from him and knocked the off stump. KL Rahul was drawn forward and once again the ball swung late from the off-stump line and took an outside edge to Bairstow. Both the batsmen opened up and failed to read the swing and hardly covered the line. Just like the Edgbaston match, the away swinger continues to trouble the Indian batsmen. This is testing times for India.
Rain stops play! Heavy drizzle and the players are off the field. India will be happy to take a breather here.
India 10/2!
Wicket!! James Anderson is having the time of his life. Forces Rahul (8) forward and the late swing takes an outside edge back to keeper Jonny Bairstow. India lose their second wicket!
The ball is moving around, carrying well. James Anderson is bowling brilliantly and looks in a good rhythm. It will be a tricky first session for the Indians, who will have to read the swing well.
Though Pujara has not been among the runs in the recent matches, he eats up a lot of deliveries and more importantly, he survives the new ball. This makes it easy for other batsmen, who don’t have to face the new ball.
Cheteshwar Pujara is in at number three.
Wicket!! What a delivery. James Anderson bowls a beautiful delivery that swings away to knock Vijay’s off-stump! Vijay departs for a duck.
Murali Vijay and KL Rahul will open the innings for India.
Surrey’s 20-year-old Ollie Pope makes his Test debut at Lord’s.

Asian teams enjoy a healthy record at the Lord’s. Since 2014 Asian sides have won three and drawn two Tests at Lord’s. The wicket is dry but the slight drizzle and the overcast conditions will offer some assistance to the bowlers.

England held their nerves in the neck-and-neck first Test as India fell short of 31 runs. Sam Curran, 20, fired a run-a-ball half-century to help England to a competitive total before the Indian batsmen collapsed chasing a target of 194 runs.
England will miss the services of all-rounder Ben Stokes, who will be appearing in Bristol to answer charges of affray. Stokes was the pick of the English bowlers in the first Test. His 4/40 in the second innings helped England take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Pacer Chris Woakes was drafted into the squad as Stokes’ replacement. A 20-year-old Oliver Pope earned his maiden call-up and is most likely to play ahead of Dawid Malan in the second Test.
The Indian batsmen, who succumbed to England’s probing pace and swing, will look to answer their batting woes in the second match. Skipper Virat Kohli was the lone Indian batsman who put up meaningful contributions with the bat. He smashed his first Test century (149) in the first innings and a 51 in the second innings as wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
