NIA conducts raids across UP and Delhi against Islamic State module.NewDelhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids across 16 locations in Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi against Harkat ul Harm e Islam – a suspected terror module styled on the lines of the Islamic State.

It is suspected that the IS module had plans of carrying out attacks across the country – especially in Delhi and its adjoining areas.

The NIA has reportedly detained several suspects during the raids and will question them. UP ATS has confirmed that five persons have been arrested in Amroha. Most of the raids in UP have occurred in the western part of the state including Meerut, Hapur, Amroha and Ghaziabad.

Correspondent Pramod reported from Jafarabad that the raids here began from 0400hrs and that a team of close to 20 vehicles with several officials came in for the operation.

Correspondent Manish Shukla reported from Delhi that the module may have been active in radicalising people – especially in backward areas of UP. A number of suspect items have been recovered from the locations that were raided. These include ammonium nitrate, pistols, grenade launchers and jihadi manuscripts.

Those detained are being taken to NIA headquarters for questioning.
