NewDelhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed as the Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East on Wednesday. She will take charge in the first week of February 2019. She’s likely to contest from Rae Bareli, sources told to media.
The development comes just months ahead of Lok Sabha Election, scheduled to be held in May-April in 2019.
Speaking on the development, senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra said, “The responsibility given to Priyanka ji is very important. This will not only have an effect on eastern Uttar Pradesh but also other regions.”
The party also appointed Jyotiraditya Scindia as the General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West and KC Venugopal as Congress General Secretary (Organisation).
In an official release, the party also thanked the contribution of Ashok Gehlot, the outgoing AICC General Secretary (Organisation).
Ghulam Nabi Azad has been appointed as as AICC General Secretary for Haryana.
