New Delhi: India’s COVID-19-related death toll crossed the 3-lakh mark after 4,454 fresh fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry on Monday (May 24, 2021).
The country has been reporting over 4,000 deaths from the past few weeks and the death count has now mounted to 3,03,720.
Earlier on Sunday, 3,741 coronavirus-related casualties were recorded, while on May 22, nearly 4,200 people lost their lives due to the virus. 4,209 deaths were reported on May 21, whereas, 3,874 people succumbed to COVID-19 on May 20. There were 4529 new fatalities on May 19, 4329 on May 18, 4106 on May 17 and 4077 on May 16.
Maharashtra has registered the most number of deaths at 88,620, followed by Karnataka (25,282), Delhi (23,202) and Tamil Nadu (20,468)
Meanwhile, the country also witnessed 2,22,315 new coronavirus infections, besides 3,02,544 recoveries. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country has now increased to 2,67,52,447.
There are now 27,20,716 active cases in India. This is to be noted that seven states cumulatively account for over 65% of India’s total active cases.
