Delhi swelters under power cuts; BJP, AAP, and Congress blame each other

Closure of 44 toll booths announced in MaharashtraNew Delhi: BJP, AAP and congress blaming each other for the current power crisis in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party has said that the BJP-ruled central government should be held accountable for the failure to ensure efficient power supply.

BJP is in power at the Centre and Vardhan is a Union minister as well as Delhi BJP president. It is the responsibility of the ruling party at the Centre to address the problem of power supply in Delhi. That is why we have come here, Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said reporters,

According to a report, Vardhan, however, rejected any criticism saying his party was never in power in the state. Congress was in power for 15 years. The AAP was in power for 49 days. They are to be blamed for the situation not the BJP as our party has not come to power in Delhi yet, Vardhan said.

The BJP, however, has blamed the AAP for the power crisis saying they did nothing in the short time that they were in power. Even when they were in government, they sat on protests instead of doing work, a party spokesperson that could not be immediately identified told news channels.

Power Minister Goyal to meet top officials Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal will meet Delhi LG Najeeb Jung as well as other senior government officials to discuss the ongoing power shortage in the state. Reuters “Preliminary inquires suggest problems of transmission, distribution in Delhi. I have called the Lt Governor to address this,” the minister told reporters earlier this morning, adding, that it was “unfortunate that the Congress and AAP who have been in power longer than us (are protesting). It shows their weakness.

Citizens of Delhi facing crisis, this was their ineptitude. It’s not about elite or commoners, I will ask Delhi state officials to explain to me what has happened. With no respite from the blistering heat, Delhiites are now holding demonstrations across the city against the power outages that last for several hours and the consequential irregular water supply.  Political parties, too, are not missing the opportunity to hit out at each other for the ongoing crisis.

As of today, the maximum temperature in the national capital is at 45 degrees C. On Monday, several Congress leaders held Delhi Chief Secretary SK Srivastava hostage for half-an-hour at the Delhi Secretariat over the crisis. The official was allowed to go only after he gave a written assurance promising to take remedial measures within a day but also noted that it will take close to 25 days to completely restore the power supply to normalcy.
