3 men run car over traffic constable in DelhiNew Delhi: A 26-year-old traffic constable was killed by a car after a minor argument in Delhi on Sunday. That argument was over driving in a no-entry zone, following which the three accused mowed down the constable and have now been booked for murder. Accused are now claiming that they lost control of the car and it was an accident.

An eyewitness said, “I saw the constable stopping the car and trying to issue a challan. Afterwards the driver assaulted him and ran him over with his car.”

The incident took place West Delhi’s Moti Nagar when constable Manna Ram was posted at Zakhira flyover.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also visited the Delhi Police headquarters on Monday and assessed the case.

An argument broke between Ram and the accused as the former told him to take a different route as one of the carriageways was closed. In a fit of rage the accused, Raman Kant (26), reversed his car and hit the constable and dragged him for over 150 meters, police said. The constable died at the spot, said police.

The police then chased the car and arrested Kant. He was accompanied by two teenagers who have also been booked for murder. In his defence, the accused said they had lost control of the car.

“Late Officer Manna Ram was doing his duty, when this car which was speeding at 150 meters knocked him down and took his life,” said Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi.
