Kerala CM orders action against school which drop national song from I-Day eve feteKollam: The Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy had ordered a probe against a school of the Kollam district of Kerala which was forced to drop national song ‘Vande Mataram’ during the Independence Day-eve celebrations. You have brought this to my notice. I will investigate and find out the truth, he said.

Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), a fundamentalist outfit having some pockets of influence in the area, yesterday gave a letter to the authorities of TKM Centenary Public School at Karicode insisting on avoiding rendition of “Vande Mataram” as part of the celebrations.

The song was dropped after alleged protests from some parents and a local Social Democratic Party of India leader as they said that the song would hurt the religious sentiments of some sections. Meanwhile, school authorities have said that the song was changed only because younger children had difficulty performing it.

According to school management sources, SDPI, a fundamentalist outfit having some pockets of influence in the area, on Thursday gave a letter to the authoritities of TKM Centenary Public School at Karicode insisting on avoiding rendition of “Vande Mataram” as part of the celebrations.
