BREAKING: CM Vijay’s TVK wins trust vote with 144 votes after AIADMK’s split-vote; DMK stages walk out

TamilNadu: C Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government has won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly with 144 votes in favour.

The outcome secures a clear majority for the ruling alliance, strengthening CM Vijay’s position in the state.

Several MLAs from across the parties have participated in the trust vote at the assembly premises. Vijay took oath as Tamil Nadu chief minister on Sunday, May 10.

After taking oath and forming government in Tamil Nadu, chief minister C Joseph Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam are facing a floor test today in the assembly. Vijay will have to prove majority on the floor of the assembly with a trust vote, since he formed government with the support of smaller parties, barely touching the majority mark.

However, the floor test of C Joseph Vijay could also expose deepening divisions within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), after a faction of the party decided to extend support to Vijay, claiming majority backing among its MLAs.

The rebel faction of AIADMK, led by senior leaders C V Shanmugam and S P Velumani, has claimed the support of around 30 of the party’s 47 MLAs.
