Gurgaon: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, to undergo a minor procedure, agency reported on Wednesday.
More details vis a vis nature of the procedure have not been disclosed so far.
The 79-year-old Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan has experienced multiple health issues in recent years and has undergone treatment several times at hospitals in Delhi and other locations. In March this year, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi after complaining of uneasiness. Her children, Lok Sabha MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were also present at the hospital during her stay.
Earlier in January, she was also hospitalised due to respiratory issues. Doctors had attributed her condition to a mild flare-up of bronchial asthma, triggered by Delhi’s winter weather and increasing air pollution levels.
Throughout 2025, Sonia Gandhi was hospitalised on at least three occasions, including for stomach-related ailments and routine check-ups in Shimla and Delhi.
A five-time Lok Sabha MP before moving to the Rajya Sabha, she has been one of the most influential leaders of the Indian National Congress for over two decades. She has also served two terms as Congress president and continues to play an important role in the party’s organisational and political affairs.
A hospital source said that she has been suffering from a chronic cough and regularly visits for medical check-ups, particularly due to worsening air pollution in the city. Sonia Gandhi turned 79 in December 2025.
