Bangalore: Congress ruling state Karnataka is the front runner of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and left all BJP’s ruling state.
According to the Financial Year 2014-15, Karnataka is on the first position in building toilets. 3.57 lakh toilets out 25.30 lakh total of India had been built in Karnataka.
It is the 15% of overall building of toilets in country.
According to the data of Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry, 1.34 lakh toilets had been built in Gujarat under Swachh Bharat scheme.
The population of Karnataka and Gujarat is about equal. According to the census of India 2011, population of Gujarat is 6 crore and population of Karnataka is 6.1 crore.
Rural Development Minister of Karnataka HK Patil had appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the achievement.
He set the target of 10 lakh toilets. He said, “Karnataka is on first position. We set the target of 6 lakh last year out of which we had constructed 5, 00, 500. Now we had set the target of 8 to 10 lakh.”
