Kejariwal party leader Yogendra Yadav hints at politics behind the UGC axe

Yogendra Yadav-1New Delhi:Psychologist and senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party Yogendra Yadav is set to face the axe from the University Grants Commission (UGC). As per reports on Thursday, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has issued a show-cause notice to Yadav, seeking his response within seven days on why he should not be removed from the post of member UGC. In the notice issued yesterday, the ministry contended that since Yadav is now a senior leader of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he has a conflict of interest.

Yogendra Yadav has hinted that his opposition to the opening of an Inter-University Centre on teacher training in Kakinada could have caused trouble for him. Kakinada incidentally happens to be HRD minister Pallam Raju’s constituency. yogendra Yadav had threatened to give a note of dissent in the last UGC meeting but was told the matter is being dropped from the agenda. He said that the UGC later decided to set up the IUC there.”In the last four or five months, the government has tried to push few measures through the UGC, which have violated the rules and regulations and procedures within the UGC.

They go against the spirit of higher education be it in the matter of entry of foreign institutions from the backdoor or imposition of API scores in universities in a non-autonomous way or in creating inter-university centre in the constituency of the Education Minister. I had opposed all these measures because they were not good for higher education in this country,” Yadav said. But the HRD Minister himself has called it an internal matter and said he is not aware of any dissent note over the IUC. “I am not aware of the dissent over IUC at Kakinada or any other issues. I have met Mr. Yadav, he seemed to be extremely learned and a good fellow. Further than that I cannot say anything,” said Pallam Raju.
