Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy signaled a rebellion in the Congress against the bifurcation move by urging his ministers to make common cause with the YSR congress and TDP in opposing the division of Andhra Pradesh. Kiran Reddy announced his intention to approach the SC and challenge the Union Cabinet decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh once the bill reaches Parliament.
Minister S Sailajanath said, the meeting chaired by the CM decided to seek the support of YSR Congress and TDP MLAs from Seemandhra to oppose division. We also decided to seek legal remedies to oppose the Telangana Bill in the assembly. We’re looking forward to working with other political parties.
Sources said that Kumar is likely to speak of the ‘injustice’ meted out to the region at his public meeting to commission the Pulichintala project in Vijayawada on Sunday. CM also directed his ministers to arm themselves with facts to counter the bill in the assembly. He listed legal opinions given by various courts on Article 3 of the Constitution and said that there’s a special importance attached to the word “view of the Assembly”.
Several ministers expressed disappointment over the final shape of the Telangana bill as approved by the Centre. “Many of them are unable to digest the fact that none of their demands were considered”, said one minister after the meeting. Minister TG Venkatesh said that the meeting at one point considered recommending dissolution of the assembly as a mark of protest.
