Delhi gang-rape: over view of the case which give hard hit to the heart of Delhi

Delhi-Damini-ga21541New Delhi: The 2012 Delhi gang rape case involves a rape and murder that occurred on 16 December 2012 in Munirka, a neighbourhood located in the southern part of New Delhi, when a 23-year-old Nirbhaya physiotherapy intern was beaten and gang raped in a private bus in which she was travelling with a male friend there were six others in the bus, including the driver, all of whom raped the woman.

One year after his daughter became the victim of the bestiality perpetrated by six monsters in a moving bus on the sinister night of December 16, Nirbhaya’s father complained that there was no change in the mindset of the society even as the government managed to amend the rape laws.

An aggrieved father Nirbhaya’s father said to media, who lost his daughter to an unspeakable inhuman crime, even one year after the tragedy, it is still hard for the family to accept and that Nirbhaya is still alive in their memories. Though the grave crime triggered the amendment in rape laws, it did nothing to bring a change in the society which remains as such, he said.

Our tears have not dried. With each passing day her memories get more intense. Someone is always crying at home,” the distraught father was earlier quoted as saying by a news agency. The government also announced Rs 1000-crore Nirbhaya fund as a tribute to the Delhi brave heart so that all other rape victim could be supported and the much-needed infrastructural changes could be ushered in.

All the accused were arrested and charged with sexual assault and murder. One of the accused, Ram Singh, died in police custody on 11 March 2013 in the Tihar jail. According to some published reports, the police say Ram Singh hanged him, but defence lawyers and his family suspect he was murdered.

The rest of the accused went on trial in a fast-track court; the prosecution completed its evidence on 8 July. The juvenile was convicted of rape and murder and given the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment in a reform facility.On 10 September 2013, the four remaining adult defendants were found guilty of rape and murder and three days later were sentenced to death by hanging
